Exploring identity through the history of the cotton industry in Manchester and beyond.

Coat made by young people from Longsight and artists Yasmin Yaqub and Jennifer Vickers, 2001CIS Manchester Gallery, Ground Floor

Young people from Longsight worked with textile artists Yasmin Yaqub and Jennifer Vickers, to explore issues of identity and history in the cotton industry and the links between Britain and the Indian sub-continent.

They created a coat printed with photographic images of the young people and their neighbourhood and embroidered with Indian decorative beads and sequins. It can be seen in the Cotton section of the CIS Manchester Gallery.
